Junior creative team in London.

Who said you can’t buy love?

[tweetmeme source="adamanddan" only_single=false]Lately I’ve worked on a few briefs where the aim has been to increase the amount of Facebook ‘likes’ to a brand’s page.

The budgets have been quite substantial, so obviously as a creative, you’ll try and think of a cool way for people to engage with.

However you might have noticed PayPal’s attempt to do this. You might have even taken part.

They’re giving away 10 iPad 2′s. One of the most sought after products of 2011.

To be in with a chance of winning one, you simply ‘like’ their page and see if you’re lucky enough to be randomly chosen. Today they posted the picture shown to the left.

They’ve accumulated 177 thousand fans since the launch of the competition with word of the giveaway spreading on Facebook and Twitter.

Pretty effective don’t you think? For something that will has cost them around £3,990 in prizes, they’ve managed to obtain almost 200 thousand fans.

Ask yourself the question “why the hell would I want to PayPal on Facebook?”

Truth is, you wouldn’t.

But now you’ve ‘liked’ it. And it’s unlikely you’ll find the time to unlike it.

It’s interesting to see that prize giveaways can be more successful than other campaigns.

Is it a case of agencies misunderstanding ‘real people’ who simply want benefits, not waffle?

Let’s see.
